What does ASLM mean in MEDICAL

The African Society for Laboratory Medicine (ASLM) is an international organization that promotes excellence in laboratory medicine across the African continent. It strives to provide a platform for practicing and researching laboratory professionals to collaborate and share resources, best practices and expert knowledge.

ASLM offers services such as policy reform, standards development, capacity development and research activities in laboratory medicine. It provides a network of experts with experience in many different areas of laboratory medicine which can be used to help drive its initiatives forward.

If you are interested in becoming involved with ASLM there are several options available. You can join one of their many working groups or committees which cover topics such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis diagnostics and essential medicines management. You could also become a mentor by providing technical support to laboratories using their technology or be part of a local panel/task force providing advice on changing policies related to laboratory services.

Some of the achievements so far include policy reform initiatives such as advocating for universal access to quality assured TB diagnosis; standards development including creating performance criteria documents; capacity building efforts like creating training modules and protocols; improving access to information by setting up a portal where stakeholders can access evidence-based guidelines; encouraging research activities by establishing pilot projects; raising awareness through various conferences, meetings and workshops focused on lab technology advancements; and developing sponsorships with partners that will increase financial resources available to promote lab work across Africa.
