History
Oldham Athletic’s first competitive match was against Stalybridge Rovers FC on 2 September 1895. The club initially played amateur local tournaments but eventually joined the Lancashire Combination league before becoming a founding member of the Third Division North of the Football League in 1921. In 1934, Oldham won promotion to the Second Division after finishing second in their respective league. During this time they also reached two FA Cup semi-finals but were unsuccessful. They were crowned champions of Third Division North in 1947/48 and won promotion back to Second Division as well as reaching their first FA Cup final which they lost 1-0 to Derby County. Since then OAFC have experienced various successes including winning promotion from Fourth Division to Second Division in 1989/90 season and earning a place in the Premier League between 1991 and 1994 before being relegated back to what would become known as the Championship where they stayed for several seasons until relegation into League One for 2012/13 season when they were relegated once again to League Two at end 2015/16 season
