What does NWF mean in NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS

NWF works to restore essential habitat, empower citizens and turn knowledge into action in order to conserve wildlife and its precious habitats. We work on federal policy issues, state-level conservation initiatives, public education campaigns and educational programs. Our work also includes species protection, youth engagement and urban wildlife protection, among other important issues.

Yes! Through our award-winning Ranger Rick magazine and associated digital activities we provide engaging content that encourages kids to explore the outdoors and learn about wildlife protection. We also offer various youth programs such as Nature Mapping where young people participate in scientific expeditions focusing on local biodiversity.

The specific focus of our efforts varies from project to project depending on the immediate need but overall we look at protecting entire ecosystems that are considered essential for many species’ survival including keystone species like pollinators (e.g., bees), apex predators (e.g., wolves) and other critically endangered species both plant and animal.

When something is considered endangered it means that population numbers have dropped so low that it may not be able to survive if its population continues declining at its current rate. Although many species have been declared extinct already due their low populations, there are still some species whose populations remain significantly diminished even though they haven't been declared extinct yet.

Yes! As part of our commitment to conservation research, we offer small grants through both competitive funding cycles as well as a Green Grants program specifically designed for those who are seeking smaller financial contributions towards their projects.
