What does NVL mean in LABORATORY

Noninvasive vascular laboratories provide a wide range of services including imaging scans, ultrasound, CT scanning, MRI scanning, angiography, exercise stress testing for inflammation or diseases of the arteries, veins or lymphatic vessels. They also offer pain management treatments such as electro-stimulation therapy.

NVLs enable doctors to diagnose patients quickly and accurately without painful or invasive procedures. The use of modern advanced technology helps the doctor identify circulation issues that would otherwise require surgery or an extensive treatment plan. The cost savings achieved by not needing an invasive procedure can be shared with the patient.

A NVL commonly treats conditions such as peripheral arterial disease (PAD), carotid artery disease (CAD), venous insufficiency (VI), deep vein thrombosis (DVT), varicose veins, abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), lower extremity claudication and lymphedema.

Generally speaking there are very few risks associated with using a NVL because these facilities use non-invasive equipment that produces minimal discomfort during tests performed. However any patient may experience minor local discomfort from test procedures or injection techniques used during treatments.

Results are generally available within 24 hours depending on the complexity of the testing process and other factors involved in the diagnosis procedure. The more complex cases may take up to 48 hours before results can be provided to the doctor who requested them.
