What We Do

At the Avoyelles Animal Welfare Society (AAWS), we believe that all animals have the right to be free from suffering. We strive to provide a safe and caring environment for cats, dogs and other companion animals as well as endangered wildlife species of our region. Our rescue efforts include rescuing abused or homeless cats and dogs from our local shelters as well as taking in strays found by members of our community. We offer a variety of services such as adoption services, medical care for injured or sick pets, rehabilitation programs for neglected or unwanted pets, spay/neuter programs, humane education classes for children and adults alike and much more. We also partner with other organizations like animal sanctuaries and wildlife centers around Louisiana so we can provide them with supplies if needed as well as volunteer assistance if needed. Through these partnerships we help support endangered wildlife species living in our state so that future generations can enjoy them without fear of extinction.
