What does ASDP mean in DEVELOPMENT

The goal of ASDP is to quickly send many small satellites into cost and risk effective orbits, with the intention of exploring potential advancements in satellite technology, as well as increasing the efficiency of Earth observation systems.

ASDP deploys its satellites in multiple missions with different purposes. These include scientific research, Earth observation, communications, navigation and other applications. Each mission has a specific goal and each satellite launched carries out a predetermined task related to that goal.

One major advantage offered by ASDP is its cost effectiveness compared to traditional space exploration programs; since most payloads are smaller than traditional ones, they are cheaper to launch and maintain in orbit. Furthermore, it allows data gathering at higher resolution rates than before, which proves useful for numerous applications such as monitoring natural disasters or climate change on a global scale.

This program is supported by various organizations from around Europe, including governmental agencies like Euro Space Agency (ESA), industry partners such as Airbus Defense & Space, universities and research institutes. Additionally, there has been support from other nations such as China and Japan for certain missions.

Through this program several significant achievements have been made so far. For example, in February 2021 an interplanetary CubeSat mission was sent on a two year journey to explore Mars atmosphere with unprecedented insights thanks to instrument aboard these CubeSats devices; also demonstrations have been done on distributed navigation capabilities using GNSS receivers mounted on satellites in different formations which allowed navigation without relying on ground stations; likewise deep learning techniques have successfully identified clouds over land masses photographed by imaging satellites.
