NJN has been providing quality broadcast services since 1955 when it was founded as one of America's earliest publicly funded broadcasting networks. Before NJN became a full-fledged network with its own transmitting capabilities in 1970, it was previously known as NETV (New Jersey Educational Television), which began broadcasting in 1962 with some programming provided by PBS (Public Broadcasting Service). Over time as technology advanced so did NJN's capabilities allowing them to expand their reach across all 21 counties within the state with transmitters located all over New Jersey's cities and townships. In 2014 it officially changed its name to NJTV after merging with WNET which turned NJTV into New Jersey’s largest statewide public media network covering nineteen counties plus portions of Pennsylvania and Delaware.
