Shortly after being established, it opened up two branches: one in Manila and another in Abra province located near Ilocos Norte in Northern Luzon. Since opening its doors 90 years ago, it has worked tirelessly to preserve Filipino heritage by investigating ancient manuscripts and making them available for public access at libraries across Manila such as at San Agustin Church Library or Casa Gorordo Museum Library in Cebu City.
