A Non-Consultant Career Grade (NCCG) is a system of career progression in the United Kingdom that is used to grade healthcare professionals working in the National Health Service (NHS). This system was introduced as part of the NHS reforms in 2004 and replaced the previous Senior House Officer and Registrar system. The NCCGs are used to define doctors’ career paths, responsibilities, pay scales and job roles.

The Non-Consultant Career Grades include four levels; Specialty Registrars/Trust Doctors, Clinical Fellows, Academic Clinical Fellows and Specialty Trainees. Each position has different job roles and responsibilities along with different pay scales.

In order to become part of the Non-Consultant Career Grade, you must first obtain your medical degree or equivalent qualification.
