What does NBH mean in HEALTHCARE

Neuroscience, Behavior and Health is an interdisciplinary field that focuses on how understanding the brain and behavior can inform health care policy. The goal of NBH is to create improved health outcomes through evidence-based interventions that consider biological, psychological and social factors.

NBH seeks to improve health by integrating research from a variety of disciplines, including neuroscience, psychology, public health, epidemiology, genetics and biostatistics. By looking at biological, psychological, social and environmental factors together rather than in isolation, NBH seeks to develop interventions that have a greater impact on individual wellness than single-discipline approaches.

Examples of NBH-based interventions include developing personalized treatments based on genetic testing; using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to treat depression; creating educational programs that target childhood obesity; researching the different ways that stress affects the body; and creating lifestyle interventions aimed at reducing risk factors for chronic diseases such as cancer or heart disease.
