What does AATP mean in EDUCATIONAL

The AATP is designed to honor and celebrate African American history, culture, and achievements. It provides an opportunity for students to learn about the unique experiences and contributions of African Americans to our nation's history.

The AATP is open to all students regardless of their racial or ethnic background. All are welcome and encouraged to participate in this educational initiative.

Activities vary from school-to-school, but usually include lectures by guest speakers, presentations on prominent figures in African American history, book discussions, films screenings, writers workshops, field trips, art exhibits, dramatic performances, among other things.

By participating in the AATP students gain a deeper understanding of how African Americans have made an impact on our nation as well as a better appreciation for diverse perspectives. This helps build critical thinking skills and promotes greater tolerance among all people.

Schools can create their own AATPs by reaching out to local organizations focusing on Black History such as churches or museums. It is also important to contact parents and community members who may be able to provide resources or help plan curricula materials that teach students about key people and events in Black History.
