History
All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society (AIFACS) was founded on 15th April 1941 by Sir Jawaharlal Nehru in view of encouraging the growth of Indian Art & Culture. He was concerned about the lack of exposure that many talented artists from different parts of the country were not getting due recognition . He believed that given proper support these talented individuals could make a better contribution to the Indian Fine Arts & Crafts movement. Initially it was called as 'The National Exhibition Of Paintings'. Over the years AIFACS has been actively engaging itself into organizing various exhibitions across India along with other events such as workshops, seminars for artistes etc. As a result today AIFACS is a well known name amongst both young & experienced artistes who contribute towards enriching our rich cultural heritage.
Activities
AIFACS engages itself into various activities which are aimed at promoting Indian Art & Culture across the length & breadth of India. At present it has more than 500 members which include famous painters from across India including M F Hussain, Raja Ravi Verma etc., along with several amateur painters from different parts of the country who have taken up painting either as hobby or profession. The organisation hosts regular meetings where all members come together to discuss new ideas related with topic such as ‘Preservation & Promotion Of Traditional Art’ or ‘Improvement In Quality Of Non-Traditional Paintings’ etc., This helps in providing practical solutions related to any issue concerning Indian art or its development.
Contribution Towards Art Community
AIFACS has been contributing significantly towards improving the socio-economic status of existing artists by offering various facilities such as Medical Aid, Accommodation Allowance, Scholarship Programs for students interested in pursuing Fine Arts studies, Grants For Preservation Projects etc., through its own fund named ‘Sabha Yagna Fund’ which is run solely upon donations received from benefactors across India year after year since past 70 years now.
