What does MOSP mean in UNCLASSIFIED

Overview

The Math Olympiad Summer Program was founded by Dr. Richard Kalman, professor emeritus of mathematics at UCLA, and includes material from various levels beyond high school that reflect college level mathematics instruction. It is designed to introduce some of the higher level problem solving techniques used by mathematicians in today's world. Participants are expected to work through challenging problems alongside peers who have a similar passion and aptitude for math while advancing their respective knowledge levels over the course of two weeks. Depending on their final scores, participants may even be eligible for scholarships or awards offered by MAA upon completion of the program.

Course Composition

The MOSP curriculum encompasses a wide variety of topics such as algebraic number theory, abstract algebra, geometry and combinatorics among others. Each day consists of talks given by distinguished professors and mathematicians followed by evening seminars given by student facilitators which provide additional support material to supplement lectures previously discussed during the day. In addition to this formal curricular instruction, social activities are provided throughout the duration of both weeks including excursions around local attractions as well as recreational activities such as swimming or volleyball games among other sports related events.
