What does MMO2 mean in NAVY

As a Machinist's Mate (Optician) Petty Officer Second Class, you are responsible for maintaining and repairing optical and ophthalmologic equipment. You will also manage the inventory and requisition of all supplies related to optical and ophthalmologic repair work.

To be eligible for the rank of Machinist’s Mate (Optician) Petty Officer Second Class, you must have completed general military training courses such as basic machinery maintenance, preventive maintenance system management, material preservation and corrosion control, technical publications administration, material safety data sheets administration and Navy Enlisted Classification codes management. Additionally, you must complete specialized training in optical shops that includes instruction in lense fabrication and instrument repair.

The minimum experience requirement for becoming a Machinist’s Mate (Optician) Petty Officer Second Class is two years as an E-4 or higher with evidence of successful completion of advanced specialized optical instruction or equivalent civilian training in vision laboratory technology or optics.
