What does AREC mean in REAL ESTATE

The Arkansas Real Estate Commission is responsible for regulating the activities of real estate brokers, salespersons, private property managers, and home inspectors. The Commission sets standards and issues licenses to real estate licensees, investigates complaints against licensees, enforces disciplinary action against those deemed in violation of licensing laws, and educates the public about their rights when buying or selling real estate.

You must first successfully complete a 60-hour pre-license course approved by the Commission and then submit an application along with supporting documentation and fees. Fingerprinting may also be required. Upon approval of your application by the Commission, you will receive your license.

To qualify for a broker's license in Arkansas you must be at least 21 years old, have held an active salesperson's license for at least two consecutive years within five years prior to making application for the broker's examination, meet character qualifications as outlined in state law, complete a 60-hour Broker Pre-license Course provided by an approved school in Arkansas, pass the state and national sections of the uniformed broker examination administrated by PSI Exams Testing Center (or another authorized provider), pay all fees associated with obtaining a broker's license in Arkansas, submit a signed application indicating that you are familiar with all current Real Estate Licensing Rules & Regulations as established by the commission prior to issuance of your license.

The cost for licencing fees varies depending on whether you are applying for an individual or co-brokerage licence. An individual licence costs $85 while co-brokerage costs $90. Both licences require additional fingerprinting fee payable directly to IdentoGo/MorphoTrust USA and range between $55 -$75 per card depending on service type requested.

All real estate licencing renewals must be done before June 30th each year or they become invalid after this date ​and cannot be renewed until completed again​ with all applicable fees paid​ up front including late fee charges if applicable​. Your licence will not expire if you move out of state but it must remain inactive unless you transfer it by complying with all rules governing licensure in other states ​as governed by that particular jurisdiction's regulations​.

Licensed real estate professionals are required to take eight (8) hours of continuing education (CE) courses each calendar year according to Act 1216 of 2001 amended 2017 (also referred to as Continuing Education Renewal Law). Courses are divided into four categories; Core Courses (4 Hours), Business Practices (2 Hours), Elective Courses (2 Hours) and Online Required Legal Update Courses (2 Hours).
