History

The Mets were founded in 1962 to replace the departed New York Giants and Brooklyn Dodgers, which had moved out of New York City after the 1957 season. The Mets have won two World Series Championships (1969 and 1986), four National League pennants (1969, 1973, 1986, 2000) and six NL East titles (1969–1973, 1986, 1988, 2006). They are one of two MLB franchises to never lose a series absent a game seven win or go scoreless in a series outside of their current divisional format; they also hold the record for having been involved in the most one run games over the course of any Major League Baseball season with 162 close contests during the 2008 campaign.

Team Performance

The Mets' overall performance has fluctuated significantly over their history. From time to time they have reached great heights but since 2000 they have suffered through long periods of mediocrity or worse. In recent years their performance has improved but this has not been reflected on national television ratings or attendance figures as much as one might hope. On March 28th 2018 they reached their worst point ever when new owners stepped in and cleaned house by firing both Manager Terry Collins and General manager Sandy Alderson. Since then there has been some improvement under new manager Mickey Callaway which include making it to back-to-back playoffs appearances in 2019 and 2020 before ultimately being eliminated by teams from the National league West Division each time.
