What We Do

APV works strategically with key decision makers in order to create positive change in both policy making and electoral races at the state level. Through its network of local activists and coalition partners, APV identifies potential champions of progressive values who are running for office or already elected representatives — giving them a greater voice in policy decisions across the Commonwealth. In addition to advocacy on specific issues, APV brings together stakeholders from diverse backgrounds who represent the full range of Virginian perspectives on important matters such as education reform efforts and health care access initiatives.

Working Together

In order to maximize its impact on the Commonwealth's policy challenges and opportunities, APV is committed not only to working independently but also partnering with other organizations that share similar goals. For example, coalition partnerships have enabled it to amplify and expand support for causes like pay equity legislation through shared resources, strategies and events that bring attention from all sectors of society (e.g., legislators). Additionally, it has actively engaged directly with citizens through workshops providing skills-building trainings on how effective activism can be undertaken at the local level — such as effectively using social media - by connecting regional groups that might otherwise exist in relative isolation from one another.
