What does MCRD mean in MILITARY

The Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) is a major training facility for all U.S. Marines. It is located in San Diego, California and is staffed by a number of highly skilled Marine instructors who are responsible for training and preparing new recruits to become U.S. Marines.

The Commanding Officer of the depot oversees training at MCRD and reports directly to Commander of Training and Education Command (TECOM). The Marine Corps Recruit Depot staffs several Drill Instructors (DI), Company Gunnery Sergeants (CoGun), company commanders and enlisted personnel that specialize in teaching military values, skills, customs, and courtesies to new recruits.

Basic combat training at MCRD usually lasts for 10 weeks after which time recruits earn the title "U.S. Marines". During their stay at the recruit depot they will go through physical fitness tests, field exercises, classroom instruction and morale building activities that teach them skills necessary for becoming a successful member of the United States Armed Forces.

The public can visit the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, CA Monday thru Friday from 9am – 4pm Pacific Standard Time with no reservation required for up to 3 people in a group or family during the visitors hours via a guided tour.
