What does APTA mean in PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS

The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) is a non-profit international association that works to improve public transportation systems in the United States and around the world.

APTA members represent public transportation agencies, government leaders, business partners, and other organizations committed to providing safe and reliable transportation for their communities.

APTA provides a range of professional and technical services designed to support its members' strategic goals, as well as initiatives to promote public transit use in communities throughout the U.S. These include research on best practices; consulting services; publications; data collection; safety analysis; technical conferences; advocacy support for federal funding initiatives; leadership training and development programs; economic development services; international exchanges with transit professionals from around the world; and more.

Through its various programs, activities, publications and professional resources, APTA helps local communities develop or enhance their current public transit system by giving them access to a network of expert advice from industries such as engineering, finance planning, marketing and service design. Additionally APTA encourages citizens in these communities to get involved through awareness campaigns like National Dump the Pump Day.

National Dump The Pump Day is an annual event sponsored by APTA where people are encouraged “dump” their dependence on driving cars by using public transportation instead. It seeks to bring attention to how public transportation benefits both individuals and society at large by reducing emissions associated with car travel while also freeing up road space for pedestrians or cyclists. It usually takes place on June 20th each year in participating states across America.
