The Philippine Madrigal Singers was founded by Professor Andrea O. Veneracion in 1963 at the University of the Philippines - Diliman campus. Professor Veneracion believed that there was a need for an organization that focused on choral music and sought to foster vocal talent throughout the country. Since its inception, The Philippine Madrigal Singers have won numerous awards at international competition levels including five grand prizes from European competitions held in Italy, Switzerland, France, Germany, Spain and England. Additionally, they were also given a Papal honor by Pope John Paul II as well as two National Artist Awards for Music from President Fidel V Ramos in 1997 and 1998 respectively.
