What does LPAC mean in LIBRARIES

The main function of the LPAC is to review appeals from library users who are challenging imposed fines or penalties. The committee evaluates the circumstances surrounding a fine or penalty, such as extenuating circumstances, mitigating factors, and potential errors in procedure. If a decision is made to overturn a fine or penalty, then it is up to the LPAC to determine what course of action should be taken as compensation.

You must submit an official appeal form to your local library branch within 30 days of receiving notification of the violation or penalty in question. After submitting your appeal form, you will receive confirmation that it was received along with instructions on further steps you need to take.

Once an appeal has been received and accepted, it will be sent to the Library Penalties Appeal Committee (LPAC). Depending on caseloads and other factors, it can take several months to receive a response after filing an appeal with the committee.

If your appeal is denied by the LPAC, you will be required to pay any outstanding fines or fees incurred due to your violation(s). Additionally, if any additional disciplinary actions were taken against you as part of your violation(s), those will stand as originally determined by your local library branch staff.
