What Does APH Mean?

The Association of Personal Historians or APH is an international organization dedicated to helping preserve people’s memories. Its mission is to promote the concept of recording our personal journeys in order to better understand our past, present and future lives. Their members use several different methods—from capturing oral histories to creating written memoirs—and ensure that each storyteller can honor their own history through whatever medium they prefer or feel comfortable using. The APH also holds workshops on digital storytelling techniques so its members can stay on top of new methods to capture their client’s life stories.

What Is the Purpose of the APH?

The main purpose of the APH is to serve as a network for all those involved in capturing stories related to memory preservation. Its members are professionals who have taken on this important task; some specialize in oral history, others focus more on editing/writing services while still others offer videography services. But no matter what their individual specialization might be, each member works together to strive toward a common goal: To give families an opportunity to forever tell their story by documenting it in an archival format that will last for generations. This way we can safely pass down these treasured memories from one generation after another so that our children can learn about our heritage and culture first-hand instead of just reading about it in a book or hearing about it through hearsay
