What does LFP mean in FOOD & NUTRITION

Local Food Plus (LFP) is an organization focused on creating a sustainable and secure local food system. Their mission is to create economic opportunities for farmers, build healthier communities, and improve access to local foods.

LFP works with partners to create innovative programs that help farmers grow more food in an environmentally responsible way while maintaining economic stability and improving access to healthy local food for everyone. These programs include certification, mentorship, innovation grants, agricultural land trusts, strategic partnerships between producers and buyers, market development initiatives and more.

Everyone can benefit from the work that LFP does! Farmers have the opportunity to increase production while staying environmentally friendly as well as gain economic security. Consumers have greater access to locally grown foods which are fresher and often higher quality than imported goods. Communities benefit by increasing employment opportunities in the agricultural sector as well as promoting health through improved nutrition.

You can get involved with LFP by donating or joining their mailing list so you can stay up-to-date with their news and events! Additionally, if you're a farmer you can participate in certifications or apply for one of their innovation grants or other programs mentioned above.

Currently LFP operates throughout Ontario but they are looking into expanding operations into other Canadian provinces in the future. They also provide support services online such as training materials for those interested in certification programs outside of Ontario as well.
