What does KNB mean in COMMUNITY

Keep Nebraska Beautiful is a nonprofit organization that works to encourage personal, corporate, and community responsibility for enhancing the beauty of Nebraska’s environment. The mission of Keep Nebraska Beautiful is to engage individuals to take greater responsibility for improving their community environments through education, awareness, and action.

Keep Nebraska Beautiful was founded in 2002 by the Governor’s Office of Environmental Programs with assistance from numerous state agencies and organizations. It began as a grassroots volunteer effort to clean up, beautify and protect the environment in communities throughout Nebraska.

Through partnership projects with businesses, organizations, schools, government entities, local citizens and volunteers across the state, KNB has developed a variety of programs designed to reduce littering and illegal dumping; promote recycling; engage youth in environmental stewardship activities; provide resources for successful land management; preserve wildlife habitat; promote green spaces; address water quality issues; and develop educational resources.

KNB works closely with many partners throughout our state including cities, schools, local governments/departments, volunteer organizations/groups and many more. Examples include community cleanups, recycling programs at schools & offices, educational outreach on litter prevention & waste reduction topics at public libraries & events. Additionally KNB partners with local businesses who care about keeping their area clean & beautiful by offering business subsidies for recycling bins or waste containers which help keep unwanted items out of alleys & streets and often reduces costs associated with proper waste disposal.

There are several ways you can get involved with KNB! You can participate in one of our Adopt-a-Spot® initiatives where you commit to cleaning up a certain area regularly or work with us at one of the many events they hold throughout the year like Earth Day or Fall Festivals! Also volunteering your time for cleanup efforts is another great way to make an impact such as helping pick up trash left on roadsides or other areas around your community. If you have an idea about how you would like to give back in any capacity reach out we can brainstorm ideas together!

To start an Adopt-a-Spot program all you need to do is fill out the Adopt-a-Spot agreement form online at www.knbnebraska.org/adoptspot then submit it via mail or email using the contact information provided on that page from there we will review your application then provide you resources needed for success such as trash bags along with other materials evaluated during this discussion process.

Yes - donations of time are equally valuable! We welcome extra hands to join us at cleanups or other activities held throughout the year where volunteers are always welcome & appreciated! You can also donate items like tools (rakes rakes hoes shovels etc.) or supplies (litter grabbers gloves face masks etc.). You could also spread awareness by sharing our social media posts talking about KNB within your network or simply taking pride in caring for your environment which helps set an example for others.

Resources available from KNB include educational materials covering environmental topics related to sustainability litter prevention water quality natural habitat protection composting etc.; fundraising opportunities like grant programs partner matching funds & corporate sponsorships; access to special discounted rates through various companies when purchasing certain products related KnBN programs; access to knowledgeable staff dedicated helping find solutions issues affecting area environment much more.
