What does JRD mean in UNCLASSIFIED

Journées Romaines Dominicaines (JRD) are religious festivals celebrated by the Dominican Order annually. JRD is a commemoration of the anniversary of the foundation of the Order of Preachers in 1216 and its renewal a century later. The celebration includes particular liturgies and other activities such as spiritual reflections, special prayers, study days, academic conferences and more.

JRD usually takes place every year in mid-August and lasts for one week. This celebration coincides with the Solemnity of Saint Dominic, which is observed on August 8th each year.

JRD is mainly celebrated by members of the Dominican Order, including friars, nuns and lay people who are dedicated to living out St. Dominic's charism of preaching truth through their lives and works. Other Christians can attend or participate in some way; however, as this is primarily an observance of Dominican spirituality it has a special focus on those within the Order itself.

During JRD participants take part in various activities such as retreats, spiritual talks, conferences, discussions about contemporary issues concerning Church and society from a Catholic point of view, celebration Mass and more. Additionally there are also social gatherings so that participants can socialize with each other while enjoying meals, sharing stories and forming friendships among all attendees.

While JRD is mainly attended by those within the Dominican Order or other Roman Catholics interested in growing in their faith together with Dominicans, non-Catholics may attend at their discretion as guests; however they will not take part in certain elements such as Liturgy and/or Communion services due to doctrinal issues.
