What does IVAC mean in VACCINE

The International Vaccine Access Center (IVAC) is a center at Johns Hopkins University focused on accelerating global access to life-saving vaccines. It provides technical, policy and operational support to governments, civil society organizations, and other partners to close gaps in immunization coverage and reduce vaccine-preventable disease.

IVAC works through an integrated approach combining evidence, advocacy, collaboration and capacity building. We provide research on the impact of new and underutilized vaccines, conduct policy analysis to inform global decision-making and develop strategies for expanding vaccine access. We also provide on-the-ground support to help countries accelerate their progress towards global targets for immunization coverage by strengthening the health system.

Increased access to vaccines leads to improved health outcomes for individuals as well as entire populations. Vaccines protect children from preventable diseases like measles and polio, reduce mortality rates among mothers and newborns, and can even lead to economic gains as fewer people need to seek care for illnesses or miss work due to illness. All of these benefits are further amplified when vaccination programs are implemented across multiple countries — a key focus area of IVAC's work.

Through our technical assistance, evidence gathering and knowledge sharing, IVAC has been instrumental in helping more than 65 countries around the world strengthen their immunization systems so they can deliver better coverage with existing resources. By working with governments, donors and other global health stakeholders we have helped introduce nearly 20 new or underutilized vaccines into routine immunization programs in more than 60 countries since 2012.

At IVAC we believe that all children have the right to protection from vaccine-preventable diseases regardless of where they are born or how much money their family has. We strive everyday not only for creating long-term sustainable solutions but also addressing urgent needs -— such as responding quickly after outbreaks enabling rapid implementation of effective control measures saving lives every day!

Research plays a critical role in understanding what drives vaccine uptake in different contexts forces shaping partners' behaviour when advocating for expanded immunization resources implementation strategies that ensure equitable access of available vaccines at last mile etc.. This helps us develop evidence based solutions that contribute significantly towards closing gaps in immunization coverage across the globe.

Equity gap analyses assess whether there are any disparities in service utilization amongst subgroups within populations typically categorized by socio economic factors such as gender income/wealth ethnicity education level etc.. These analyses provide valuable insights on who is being left behind highlighting areas where resources may be misallocated or additional investments may be needed which then form the basis for developing targeted interventions aimed at reducing inequities.
