What does ITO mean in SPORTS

The role of an ITO is to ensure that skating competitions and events are conducted in accordance with the rules and regulations of the ISU. This includes judging skating performances, keeping track of all official results, and ensuring fair play during the competition.

ITOs are hired by the International Skating Union (ISU).

To become an ITO, candidates must possess a deep understanding of figure skating and ice dancing rules as well as experience in officiating or judging at local or national-level competitions. Candidates must also pass tests administered by the ISU to be certified as an ITO.

The frequency of attendance depends on their specific duties — some attend international competitions every year while others may be assigned to certain events once or twice per season.

Compensation varies depending on each assignment but typically includes a salary plus travel expenses such as accommodation, food, and transportation costs. In addition, some countries may offer additional benefits to their national technical officials such as tax advantages or reimbursement for tuition fees.
