What Is ANLL?

ANLL is a type of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) which affects the bone marrow and white blood cells. It develops suddenly in an otherwise healthy individual when their blood cells become rapidly abnormal and uncontrollable. These abnormal cells then accumulate in large numbers and start to interfere with the body's normal cell production processes, leading to symptoms such as fatigue, fever, susceptibility to infection and shortness of breath, among others. As the disease progresses, these symptoms become more difficult to manage.

Diagnosis

ANLL can be diagnosed through a combination of medical history examination, physical examination, laboratory tests like complete blood count (CBC), and imaging studies such as X-rays or MRI scans. A small sample of bone marrow tissue may also be taken for further analysis if necessary. After the diagnosis has been confirmed, further tests are conducted to determine what stage the disease is at so that an appropriate plan for treatment can be provided.

Treatment

Treatment for ANLL typically involves chemotherapy drugs administered intravenously or orally; radiation therapy; surgery; stem cell transplants; and/or targeted therapies targeted to certain genetic mutations associated with the disease being present in individuals who have it. The choice of treatment will depend on various factors including age, general health status, prior treatments received as well as prognostic tests like cytogenetic testing which can help predict success rates for particular treatments or medications used against ANLL before they are applied.
