What does IRCC mean in IMMIGRATION

IRCC is responsible for setting the rules, policies and regulations related to immigration, refugees and citizenship. It monitors the entry into Canada of immigrants, visitors and refugees; issues citizenship certificates; permits permanent residents to become Canadian citizens; and makes decisions on refugee claims.

The first step in applying for a Canadian visa is to determine which category you fall into: visitor visa (for short-term visits); work permit (for individuals wishing to work in Canada); student visa (for students wishing to study in Canada); or Permanent Resident Card (for individuals wishing to stay in Canada permanently). The maximum length of time that most visitors are allowed to stay in Canada is six months per visit. However, some visitors may be granted an extension if they meet certain criteria outlined by IRCC. Please note that every person's situation will be different so it is important that you consult an immigration lawyer before submitting an application for an extension.

To become a Canadian citizen, you must first apply for permanent residency status by submitting the necessary documents along with a processing fee. Once approved for permanent residency status, you must live in Canada for three years before being eligible to apply for Canadian citizenship through the process known as naturalization or citizenship acquisition. This process includes taking tests on language ability and knowledge of Canadian culture as well as filling out all required forms correctly before being invited to attend your local ceremony where you will take the Oath of Citizenship administered by IRCC officials

Permanent Residents are allowed access many services including free health care under provincial coverage, government pension plans such as Old Age Security (OAS), parenting benefits such as Employment Insurance Parental Benefits Program (PBP) and Children's Special Allowance (CSA). They also have certain rights under Canadian law including but not limited to protection from discrimination based on religion or race, freedom of expression and freedom from unreasonable search or seizure without proper warrant or court order
