What does IPOS mean in ONCOLOGY

IPOS provides clinical support services including online resources, research projects, workshops and conferences. They also provide support to those impacted by cancer by providing information on counseling techniques and other psychosocial interventions.

Membership is open to all professionals involved in psycho-oncology including psychologists, psychiatrists, physicians, nurses, social workers & healthcare professionals. Patients/caregivers, students & faculty members all have distinct membership categories in order to benefit from being part of the IPOS network.

IPOS conducts research on issues such as quality-of-life outcomes for patients dealing with the impact of psyco-oncological issues stemming from their diagnosis and treatment; the effectiveness of psychosocial interventions; psychological resilience among cancer survivors; developing better communication between medical providers & cancer patient's families; caregiver burden & stress; nursing interventions that promote better outcomes for psycho-oncological patients etcetera.

Along with their Annual Congress which typically takes place each year in October or November in different locations around the world, they host a wide variety of workshops at their congresses focused on various psycho-oncologic topics designed to inform both healthcare practitioners & patients alike on new developments & insights into this very complex area. They also host webinars throughout the year aimed at providing updated information regarding research activities & findings relevant to psycho-oncology.

Each year they award two grants known as “Travelling Fellowships” which are designed to help members attend international conferences related to Psycho Oncology each year without incurring any financial losses incurred due to travel costs etcetera. Additionally they have several awards such as best paper award for participants at their annual congresses amongst other awards made available periodically throughout the year.
