What does ANAD mean in UNCLASSIFIED

Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD) is a term used to describe a range of eating disorders that may be caused by an underlying psychological issue. These disorders are characterized by an extreme preoccupation with food, body image, and weight.

Additionally, people who deal with perfectionism or obsessive-compulsive tendencies may also be at higher risk for developing anorexia nervosa and associated disorders.

There are many treatment options available for those struggling with ANAD including psychiatric counseling and psychotherapy such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Other forms of treatment might include nutritional counseling interventions, medications to address other mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, hospitalization if necessary for medical stabilization, family therapy sessions to help support the individual suffering from the illness as well as their loved ones.
