What does IMY mean in NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS

Indira Mahila Yojana (IMY) is a flagship scheme of the Government of India started in 1993 to promote women's empowerment and gender equality. The main aim of this scheme is to provide social security, financial independence and livelihood support to marginalized women.

Under the IMY, marginalized women get access to education, health facilities, skill development programs and other welfare services such as insurance schemes, pension plans and maternity benefits. They are also given financial assistance for self-employment opportunities such as setting up small businesses or undertaking agricultural activities. Other benefits provided by this scheme include legal aid services and helpline facilities for women facing domestic violence or abuse.

The beneficiaries of IMY are women belonging to poor households or from socially disadvantaged groups like widows or single parents who lack employment opportunities or economic resources.

Applications for eligibility under IMY can be made through various government departments or local self-help groups (SHGs). Applicants must submit relevant documents along with their application forms which include identity proof, income certificate, address proof etc. In some cases an official recommendation from an elected representative may be required.

Generally there is no need for making any financial contribution while applying for IMY benefit schemes; however it depends on case-by-case basis depending on type of assistance being sought after by applicant.
