What does IMA mean in MILITARY

Being an individual mobilization augmentee (IMA) means that you are a part-time employee who provides support to the Air Force Reserve Program. As an IMA, you usually perform administrative duties remotely or at your assigned duty station on a temporary basis.

To become an IMA, you must apply through the U.S Air Force official website and meet certain qualifications such as having experience in your field, being able to pass security clearance checks, and good health.

The benefits of being an IMA include paid training and educational opportunities, travel allowances or reimbursements for necessary trips related to work, special pay compensation based on experience or amount of time served, life insurance and health care benefits through TriCare, flexible schedules with time off when needed and other legal defense services if applicable.

Your enlistment as an IMA typically lasts for six years but can be extended by two years depending on your service needs and performance evaluations. Also, your contract may be cancelled earlier than six years if no longer needed by the Air Force Reserve Program or if your performance is unsatisfactory.

IMAs do not usually wear uniforms while serving unless they are specifically required to by their command unit or supervisor due to safety reasons or other similar circumstances. However, every two years they must attend annual training wearing either their issued service dress uniforms or uniforms purchased using their personal funds depending on which unit they belong too.
