AMPA was founded in 2011. The organization's mission is to give active duty LGBT service members and veterans of all eras equal access to services offered by the U.S. Department of Defense and other government agencies related to their military service. AMPA also works with educational institutions across the country to provide training on LGBT issues impacting the armed forces, promote inclusive policies on campus, as well as aid in transitioning out of uniformed services into civilian life.
