History

The roots of IH date back to 1877 when three business owners pooled their finances and resources to build the McCormick Harvesting Machine Company. In 1902, this organization joined forces with four other companies—Milwaukee Harvester Company, Plano Manufacturing Company, Warder Bushnell & Glessner Manufacturing Company, and the Moline Plow Company—to create what is now known as International Harvester (IH).

In its early days, IH prospered greatly selling products such as hay balers and stationary engines, as well as self-propelled harvesting machines like “Little Nipper” which debuted in 1911. During World War II IH diversified into military vehicles such as tanks and coastal artillery tractors; they also supplied components for trucks used in the war effort. Alongside these items were improved farm machinery such as grain combines and field cultivators which enabled farmers to increase their crop yields at lower cost.

In 1979 IH ventured into more urban markets with the purchase of Case Construction Equipment division from Tenneco Inc., but by 1983 had been taken over by Navistar, who continued operating the conglomerate under its former name until 1986 when it became simply Navistar International Corporation.

Current Business Model

Today International Harvester continues to provide quality agricultural solutions around the world through its network of dealerships and distributors; it also produces a range of automotive engines for commercial use under its MaxxForce brand name. This lineup includes light-duty diesel engines with power outputs ranging from 150 hp up to 300 hp; they are characterized by low-noise performance even at high revs and extremely long service intervals due to their highly efficient fueling system and advanced combustion technologies. The company also specializes in parts such as fuel lines and brakes that will fit many different vehicle categories from Class 8 trucks down to pickup trucks or sports utility vehicles (SUVs). Additionally they offer a wide selection of attachments for their own products like snow blades or plows designed specifically for tractors made by them or other brands too such as Case New Holland (Case) or John Deere.
