What does IGL mean in PHYSICS

Increased Grain Linearity (IGL) is a process that is used to improve the quality of video and still photos by making colors appear more lifelike and vibrant.

IGL differs from other processes because it specifically addresses grain linearity, or how closely aligned the grain structure of an image is with respect to its grayscale tones. Without IGL, colors can feel muted or washed out. With IGL, colors appear richer and more vivid.

Images that are particularly bright or colorful, such as nature photography, benefit significantly from IGL because the colors become even brighter and more defined with higher contrast and richer tones.

In some cases, cameras come preloaded with an “IGL” mode that automatically adjusts these settings for improved image quality without requiring any manual manipulation.

While there aren't necessarily any downsides associated with applying IGL on images, it's important to be aware that too much adjustment can lead to artificial-looking results that lack fine detail in certain areas due to over saturation or over-sharpening. It's always best practice when editing photos in this way to approach adjustments gradually rather than adding too much all at once.
