What does IDCF mean in UNCLASSIFIED

Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight (IDCF) is a two-week campaign that aims to spread awareness and mobilize action against diarrhoeal diseases. The program is hosted by UNICEF in partnership with India's Ministries of Health and Family Welfare and Department of Drinking Water Supply. During this period, health workers go door-to-door to deliver lifesaving interventions such as oral rehydration salts, zinc tablets, water purification tablets, hygiene kits and handwashing materials.

Diarrhoeal diseases are a leading cause of death for children under five in India, and globally. By delivering essential preventative items such as oral rehydration salts and hygiene kits during IDCF, we reduce the burden of these diseases on families and help create positive health outcomes through education about clean water access, good hygiene practices, breastfeeding, nutrition and more.

During IDCF, health workers go door-to-door to distribute lifesaving interventions such as oral rehydration salts, zinc tablets, water purification tablets, hygiene kits and handwashing materials. In addition to providing these items to families in need, they also provide counselling on nutrition for both pregnant women and young children suffering from diarrhoea.

Everyone! Any individual or organization can volunteer their time or resources during IDCF to help address the underlying causes of diarrhoeal diseases in their local communities.

You can help out by providing monetary or material donations; participating in public awareness campaigns; organizing educational sessions about diarrhoea prevention; volunteering your time at an event; or spreading the word about the importance of healthy habits through social media.

Every year IDCF takes place in October - usually from 1st - 15th October - but dates are subject to change depending on local conditions.

Each year state governments across India organize Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight (IDCF) campaigns in selected districts within their states. These districts experience high rates of diarrhoeal diseases due to inadequate sanitary facilities and unclean drinking water supplies.

Each year over 600 million people suffer from diarrhoeal diseases globally – including over 135 million people living just in India – leading to dehydration and malnutrition among children under 5 years old.

Alongside Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight (IDFC), UNICEF works with partners around the world to ensure equitable access clean water sources for all populations at risk of exposure. UNICEF also invests heavily into education programs that promote safe hygiene practices within communities vulnerable to disease outbreaks.
