What does AMC mean in HIKING

The Arizona Mountaineering Club (AMC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting mountaineering activities in Arizona. We provide education and guidance on the different mountaineering disciplines, host workshops, and facilitate trips and other group events for climbers of all experience levels.

Anyone interested in exploring or participating in mountaineering activities can join the AMC. You don’t need any prior experience and we welcome beginners as well as seasoned veterans. Annual dues are affordable and members will receive access to exclusive resources such as course discounts, trip planning services, educational materials, and more.

The AMC offers a variety of mountaineering activities including rock climbing, ice climbing, backcountry skiing/snowboarding, alpine skiing/snowshoeing, hiking/trail running, adventure racing, caving, canyoneering and more. We also organize events like potlucks, movie showings and lectures on topics related to mountaineering that are open to both members and non-members alike.

Yes! The AMC hosts a variety of instructional courses throughout the year that cover different aspects of mountaineering ranging from beginner to advanced skill level. These courses are taught by qualified instructors from organizations such as National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) or American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA). Participants who complete these courses receive certificates to show that they have achieved certain levels of mountaineer proficiency.

There is no minimum age requirement for joining the AMC but minors must be accompanied by an adult guardian during any club activities or events. Furthermore, all participants must abide by AMCs code of conduct while participating in any club organized events or trips.

No - we do not provide gear rentals at this time but our members often share their personal equipment with fellow adventurers so it’s worth asking around if you need anything for your next adventure! Additionally some local retailers offer rentals at reasonable prices for those who don’t own their own gear yet.

Yes! While most of our planned trips take place within state boundaries we have participated in regional excursions such as trips into neighboring states like Utah or Colorado as well as international expeditions in countries such as Mexico or Canada.

All participants joining an AMC sanctioned trip are expected to review our Codeof Conduct before signing up and adhere to it during the expedition which includes displaying proper behavior at all times and respecting fellow members and other shared resources along with legal requirements depending on where you travel to. Each individual should make sure they have adequate equipment for their chosen activity according their level of expertise plus follow safety protocols set forth by leader(s) leading each trip. Participants should also review possible environmental hazards depending on destination area which may include altitude sicknesses due inclement weather conditions etc.
