What does IAB mean in COMMUNITY

The Internet Architecture Board (IAB) is an organization responsible for overseeing the development of Internet standards, related applications, protocols and architectures. It is a part of the Internet Society and provides advisory services to its various committees such as the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). It works in close coordination with other international standards organizations such as the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

The IAB is led by a rotating group of six members; three of them are selected from the IETF community, two are chosen from outside the IETF, and one serves as Chair.

The IAB provide guidance in areas including network operations and management, architecture issues, evolution of protocols and procedures, security considerations, research activities related to protocols or protocol architectures and network access control. Additionally they provide oversight for any changes made to existing IETF documents.

Most members join through existing relationships with trade associations or other technical groups associated with Networking or Communications industry. Some may also be nominated by their peers at conferences or seminars. Generally membership can be requested by submitting an application form to the Secretariat or via email contact.

The IAB focuses on topics such as network operations and management, protocol development, security considerations for protocols and architectures, research activities that further protocol development across all technologies including wireless and mobile devices networks, distributed systems architectures amongst others.

Yes; it regularly releases reports on developments related to various standards in its area of responsibility such as document series like RFCs, BCPs etc... Additionally it periodically reviews progress made in tasks assigned by it to committees like IRTF and produces recommendations when necessary.

Generally board meets every quarter both remotely via teleconferences or video conference links but face-to-face meetings too take place usually twice a year in different parts around globe where different working groups discuss individual initiatives in person beside other works done virtually throughout year.

Executive committee has authority over strategic direction setting, deciding policy issues referred by board, determining budget allocations,appointing officers & making necessary modifications in terms of operation & structure when required.

Public input is taken into consideration during decision making process because it's important factor when decisions needs be taken at executive level & general population 's views must be included for greater accuracy. Hence public input acts like advisory body which helps executives understand social implications from diverse perspectives.
