What does HTFR mean in NAVY

To become an HTFR you must have a high school diploma or GED, be at least 18 years old and be able to pass basic physical requirements including stamina tests, hearing and vision tests. You will also need to pass an aptitude test before being accepted into the program.

Training for the HTFR position typically takes about 10 weeks; however, depending on your qualifications this could be longer or shorter. After completing boot camp, you will attend either a 6 week Basic Hull Maintenance Technician Course or Dive School which takes 2 months to complete. After that you will start your on-the-job training with your assigned unit.

Becoming an HTFR does not guarantee employment after completion of training; however, there are many openings available due to the nature of the work involved in keeping ships and submarines seaworthy and operational. The best way to ensure a job upon completion is by keeping up good grades during training and making sure you maintain superior performance in your job assignment duties after completing training.
