What does HCRI mean in HEALTHCARE

Health Care Rights Initiative (HCRI) is a national campaign to ensure that all Americans have access to quality health care and are safeguarded from discrimination in health care. The initiative seeks to increase public awareness around health care rights and empower individuals to raise their voices when they experience injustice.

HCRI works by providing resources and support for those experiencing unfairness in the health system so they can effectively advocate for themselves, their families, and their communities. Through strategic partnerships, campaigns, legal action, educational tools, and other strategies we promote better health outcomes for all Americans.

HCRI serves all Americans regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, gender identity or sexual orientation who may have been denied access to quality and affordable health care due to discrimination or injustice. Our goal is to build a fairer healthcare system where everyone has equal access to quality healthcare.

HCRI provides comprehensive resources including information on how to protect yourself from discrimination in healthcare settings such as hospitals or clinics; research on policies related to patient rights; legal services for filing grievances or appeals; training sessions on how to be an effective advocate for yourself when accessing healthcare; and more.

If you have experienced unfair treatment by a health provider or insurance company while trying to obtain medical treatment or services, we can provide you with information about your rights under the law as well as assistance with filing grievances or appeals with state regulatory agencies or other appropriate bodies. In some cases we may be able to provide direct legal representation through our partnerships with pro bono attorneys in certain states who will represent clients free of charge if needed.

If you feel like you’ve been discriminated against by a doctor or other medical professional while receiving care, it’s important that you take action immediately and document everything that happened during the interaction including any conversations between yourself and the doctor/medical professional. We recommend speaking with someone at your local hospital about filing a grievance against the doctor/medical professional if necessary (this process varies depending on what city/state/country you live in). You also always have the right to file a complaint with your local authorities if needed. Ultimately it’s important that these instances are documented so steps can be taken towards preventing similar occurrences in the future.
