What does ALAA mean in LINGUISTICS

The primary aim of the ALAA is to foster a greater understanding and awareness of applied linguistics amongst its members, other professionals and the broader community. Additionally, it seeks to facilitate collaboration between its members in order to facilitate research, exchange ideas and increase professional networks.

Membership is open to anyone who has an interest in applied linguistics or related fields such as language teaching, language learning, language assessment and psycholinguistics. Current members include academics, lecturers, researchers and practitioners from across Australia and beyond.

Members have access to professional development opportunities such as lectures, conferences, workshops and courses; exclusive discounts on associated publications; networking opportunities with like-minded individuals; access to internal discussion forums; information about job openings in related fields; and much more.

The ALAA organises a range of activities throughout the year including symposia, conferences and seminars. It also provides support for research projects carried out by members and collaborates with other organisations in order to further benefit its members.

There are a number of ways you can support the aims of the ALAA - financial donations are always appreciated but you can also get involved by joining committees or volunteering your time at events organised by the organisation. Alternatively you can simply spread awareness through word-of-mouth recommendations or through sharing news relating to applied linguistics on social media platforms.
