What does GTIP mean in TURKISH

A GTIP is an abbreviation for Gümrük Tarife İstatistik Pozisyon, which translates to Customs Tariff Statistical Position and are commonly referred to as HS (Harmonized System) codes. They help classify traded goods into specific categories so that countries can negotiate trade agreements more easily and customs procedures can be streamlined.

A single GTIP consists of up to 10-digits, broken down into 6-digit headings, 8-digit subheadings, and 10-digit items.

A GTIP provides information regarding the classification of a certain commodity according to the Harmonized System code system. It helps define whether a product is subject to a specific duty rate or exemption, what goods require additional documentation before they can be exported or imported, and other relevant information.

GTIPs are primarily used by traders when processing customs declarations for both imports and exports of goods between countries. Additionally, governments use them for statistical analysis about various imported/exported items such as origins/destinations of goods, quantity traded and any applicable taxes or levies. Additionally private sector companies often also use HS Codes when researching potential markets where their products may be sold or purchased from overseas buyers/suppliers respectively due to their excellent classification structure.
