Gulf South Conference
The Gulf South Conference (GSC) is an athletic conference that was founded in 1970 and has been active in NCAA Division II sports since that time. The GSC consists of ten member institutions located in Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Florida, Missouri, Tennessee, and Texas. All members are considered public universities with the exception of Bevill State University located in Alabama which is a technical school. All schools compete at the DII level and are eligible for championships and postseason play. There are currently 18 championship sponsored sports within the GSC as well as additional club sports offered by specific institutions.
Member Schools
The current member schools of the GSC include Bevill State University, Arkansas Tech University (ATU), Delta State University (DSU), Harding University (HU), Henderson State University (HSU), Mississippi College (MC), Ouachita Baptist University (OBU), Shorter University (SU), West Alabama University (WAU) and Valdosta State University (VSU). All these institutions offer student-athletes the opportunity to compete at a high level while also earning their college degree.
History & Tradition
Since its founding in 1970, the GSC has gone on to become one of the most successful conferences in Division II athletics with numerous national championships won by its member schools over the years. Each year from 2003-2016 except 2013 saw either ATU or VSU claiming at least one title within their respective sport(s).
