The final round consists of 20 fiddlers competing in front of a live audience in Nashville, Tennessee every July. All participants are given time before their performance to warm up and get comfortable with the stage setting to ensure they can put their best foot forward come showtime!

Competition Structure

The GMFC competition has two distinct stages: regionals and finals. In both stages, competitors are judged on accuracy of musical performance (for example timing, bowing technique etc.), expressiveness (style/musical interpretation) as well as overall presentation skills (stage presence etc.) Judges rate each competitor out of ten possible points on each category for a total score out of thirty points per performance. For regionals only three musicians will qualify based on score total while 20 finalists move forward to compete in July at Nashville’s largest venue The Ryman Auditorium for grand prizes including cash awards and CDs/merchandise.
