What does GMB mean in MEDICAL

Global Medical Brigades works to provide medical aid in underdeveloped countries. They send medical professionals and students to areas with a lack of access to healthcare, focusing on both preventative care and diagnosis and treatment for common diseases.

Global Medical Brigades focuses on long term solutions by working with community members to create health initiatives that are designed with their specific context in mind. This ensures that any new knowledge or skills learned during their missions can be applied year-round, with lasting impact on the health of the community.

Global Medical Brigades works in Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Ghana and Guatemala. In each country they have established partnerships with local governmental agencies ensuring smooth coordination between their activities and projects within that country's public health system.

Volunteers must be 18 years or older, speak fluent English and Spanish (or willingness to learn) depending on the mission location, complete online forms prior to arrival at mission site or hospital, possess basic understanding of health topics covered during mission trip such as Basic Life Support (BLS). All volunteers must be comfortable working within a team environment.

During their mission trips, volunteers participate in patient triage/assessment; referral program; medicine distribution; clinic setup/cleanup; chronic disease management; education sessions; women's health initiatives; nutrition & dental programs; preventive healthcare education & more which varies based on the needs of the communities they serve.
