What does GFI mean in FOOD & NUTRITION

GFI stands for 'Good Food Institute', a global nonprofit organization that works to accelerate the transition of the global food system away from industrial animal agriculture and towards plant-based and cell-cultured alternatives.

GFI works with scientists, entrepreneurs, investors, nonprofits, and policymakers to create plant-based and cell-cultured alternatives that are better for people's health and for the environment.

GFI exists to address climate change by transitioning away from industrial animal agriculture towards more sustainable alternatives. These alternatives also provide healthier options for consumers than traditional animal products.

GFI assists in developing new technologies such as cell culturing which can be used to create animal product replacements using cells instead of animals. They also provide resources such as research grants or policy guidance related to reformulating current products or innovating new ones.

To date, they have provided over million in grants funding research breakthroughs in cell culture technology; helped introduce groundbreaking legislation in cities across the U.S.; formed research partnerships between innovative companies; developed cutting edge products that are staples on store shelves; secured investments into their portfolio companies totaling over 0 million; trained dozens of entrepreneurs through their incubation program; established 10 national industry coalitions advocating for improved policies relating to alternative proteins; and built a vibrant community of academics, entrepreneurs, investors, policymakers, chefs and other stakeholders working together worldwide promoting plant-forward diets.
