The Green Bay Packers trace their roots back to August, 1919 when local quarterback Curly Lambeau and his old high school buddy George Whitney Calhoun founded the team. Lambeau borrowed money from a local meat-packing business in order to purchase uniforms and equipment for the football team. Thus, their name was born as they paid homage to their primary sponsors in those early days.

The Green Bay Packers are unique among professional sports teams in that they have no single or primary owner, but instead are owned by approximately 360,000 shareholders as part of an organization known as “Green Bay Packers, Inc”. This ensures that the team remains in the hands of the citizens of Wisconsin and does not succumb to outside ownership interests.

Vince Lombardi was hired as head coach of he Green Bay Packers on February 2nd 1959. At this time, he also accepted additional responsibilities such as general manager and part-owner of the franchise. He would lead them to five NFL championships including Super Bowls I and II but sadly passed away later on September 3rd 1970 due to colon cancer at only 57 years old.

Lambeau Field is an American football stadium located in Green Bay, Wisconsin which serves as home field for NFL's Green Bay Packers since 1957 having replaced City Stadium which was their original home ground since 1925. The Packer's hold four Super Bowl victories; these include Super Bowl I against Kansas City Chiefs at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on January 15th 1967; Super Bowl II against Oakland Raiders at Miami Orange Bowl on January 14th 1968; Super Bowl XXXI against New England Patriots at Louisiana Superdome on January 26th 1997; and lastly, Super Bowl XLV against Pittsburgh Steelers at Cowboys Stadium on February 6th 2011.
