What is FWW?

FWW, or the Fluctuating Work Week Method, was developed to simplify overtime calculations when compensating employees for extra hours worked. This method is based on the principle that work hours vary from week-to-week rather than remaining constant each week. The employee’s base salary covers all hours that they work during a given pay period, regardless of how many hours are actually worked in the pay period. For example, if an employee works 40 hours one week and 50 the next, they would be paid the same base salary but would be eligible for overtime if they exceed 40 regular working hours in a week. For any extra time worked over 40 hours in a single week, employers using this method must compensate their employees at either 1.5 times or 2 times the employee's regular rate of pay depending on applicable laws and regulations specific to the industry and jurisdiction where they operate.
