The FWD was first established in 1991 by The US Pony Clubs Inc., when members from California, Nevada, Arizona and Hawaii were invited to compete in HSE jumping at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival at Stadium Jumping's home base venue in Wellington Florida. The goal of this event was to give young riders from the far western states an opportunity to come together for friendly competition against each other. Since then the FWD has grown into one of the largest divisions within The US Pony Clubs Inc., hosting various events throughout the year ranging from local rallies to national championships hosted by different clubs around the country.
